We LOVE copper ! Warm and rich, this timeless metal remains a firm favourite in Dr. Beads studio and now informs designs across our full collection of Handmade Jewellery.

From statement necklaces and crafted bracelets, to rings and earrings, copper offers a contemporary alternative to gold or silver, working equally as well with both casual and more formal wardrobes.

Is copper sustainable?

Yes, copper is a sustainable metal. To date, we have only used 5% of the world’s resource and mine it at a rate where we have enough to last a further 5 million years.  Paired with this, copper is a sustainable material as it is 100% recyclable. Nearly 80% of all the copper we have ever produced is still in use today. Due to this it holds its value retaining 95% of its original value.

Copper finishes

Our copper jewellery comes in two finishes. We have bangles and rings that are handcrafted from bare copper and we have a separate range of collection handcrafted from enamelled copper which does not oxidise over time.

Will bare copper jewelry turn my skin green?

The short answer is maybe. The longer answer is that the degree to which copper oxidizes and turns green is dependent moisture and temperature. It happens to some people more often than others.

Copper can create a greenish blue patina of copper sulfate fairly quickly with exposure to sweat and the warmth of the body. The color is non-toxic and washes off with soap and water. The color is non-staining.

Is copper safe for people with metal sensitivity?

Nickel is often the culprit with metal sensitivity, not copper. Many of our customers who previously could only wear gold and fine silver without allergic reaction, now routinely wear our jewelry and copper earrings in comfort. Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metal. Copper is unalloyed metal and virtually 100% pure.

How does copper relieve pain?

As you research copper bracelets, you will find a symphony of theories and opinions about whether they work and, if so, how they work. In truth, the function of copper is still not fully understood by most health practitioners.

The first thing one needs to understand about copper is its relationship to the human body in general. Copper is a highly necessary mineral in the normal function of both males and females. It is almost solely responsible for our antioxidant enzymes, as well as metabolizing Vitamin C.

Copper deficiency is an actual condition, and almost all inflammatory related diseases can be linked back to it, including the various dreaded forms of arthritis.

When looking at the many theories surrounding the use of copper bracelets for arthritis, one thing seems to be clear: while the science does not definitively support a link between copper bracelets and reduced pain, many users of copper bracelets report significant pain reduction through their use.

As a result, copper bracelets remain a recommended form of self-healing by holistic healers, reiki practitioners and botanical pharmacists around the world. Their popularity is significant even in eastern cultures, with copper bracelets being sold from the souks of Morocco all the way to the street markets of Indonesia.

Can I wear copper jewelry in the shower and pool?

Simply wearing your jewelry can help it stay clean and in-the-pink!. Sitting in a jewelry box can oxidize jewelry but soap and water helps remove dirt and oil. Wear it in the shower; soap up your bracelet chain when washing your hands.

Solid copper jewelry is wash-and-wear safe. Be aware that chlorine, cleaners and chemicals used in pools and hot tubs can damage the delicate finish of softer gemstones such as turquoise.
